On April 30, 2015, Steven Balson-Cohen obtained a defense verdict on a damages trial in Supreme Court, Queens County in Islam v. Fren Cab Corp., Index No. 8135/2013. The plaintiff was the driver of a vehicle rear-ended by the defendant’s taxi cab in April of 2013. The plaintiff claimed that he sustained a left shoulder rotator cuff tear requiring surgery. Mr. Balson-Cohen argued that the plaintiff’s injuries were degenerative, pre-existing and causally related to a prior accident from 2005. The jury returned a unanimous verdict finding that the plaintiff’s claimed injuries were not causally related to the accident in April of 2013.
